Pelicans Mascot Has ‘Reconstructive Beak Surgery,’ Will Soon Be Less Terrifying (Pic)
You know how the New Orleans Pelicans mascot, Pierre, looks like a horrifying alien clown on acid? Well, as you can imagine, this has been a bit of a P.R. problem down there. Mascots are supposed to make kids laugh and want to get their picture taken. They’re not supposed give them night terrors.
Fortunately the organization has come up with a creative mid-season solution to this problem: an “injury” that required reconstructive surgery.
Yesterday they announced that Pierre had surgery for a broken beak sustained during a basketball game with other mascots. It was supposedly performed by team physician Dr. Matthew McQueen, who supposedly explained that “injuries like this also affect other aspects of the skull which had to be addressed.”
In other words: Pierre aint gonna look like your worst nightmare anymore, which I guess means we’ll have to remove him from our list of terrifying NBA mascots.
Of course, in the meantime the Pelicans tweeted this terrifying photo of a post-op Pierre recovering in the hospital…just for old time’s sake:
Come on, guys. Learn to quit while you’re ahead.
