One of the classics of the video game world is making its return to consoles after an almost twenty-year absence. It’s R.B.I. Baseball 14, which is gearing up for a launch next month on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and even iOS and Android.
The return of R.B.I. Baseball was first announced back in January, but a recent tweet (which can be found here) from ESPN Sports Business correspondent Darren Rovell gives a firm release date for the game: “MLBAM has set its release date for R.B.I. Baseball. PS3 & Xbox 360 hits April 10, same for iOS and Android versions.” And it’s expected to be released on the next generation consoles shortly after.
In case you were wondering, the “MLBAM” stands for MLB Advanced Media, which has developed the new version of the classic game that combines a stylized visual look with its trademark realistic baseball gameplay. There’s a back-to-basics approach to the whole thing, with R.B.I. Baseball 14 coming with no online play—a rarity for today’s video games.
Until R.B.I. Baseball‘s April 10th release date arrives, you can check out some advance photos of the game’s throwback style in the gallery up at the top of the page. And for a complete rundown of R.B.I. Baseball 14‘s features (and lack thereof), take a look at this article.
