If you have ever wondered what it would look like if somebody broke their knee cap in half, this post if for you.

A rugby player named Hamed sent some pretty gruesome pictures of his mangled knee to the folks at Deadspin this week. The guy cracked his patella in half when his knee collided with the knee of an opponent. What happens when you do that? The tendons attached to either side of the patella pull the broken bones away from each other, creating a giant crater where the knee cap should be. The official name for this injury is displaced patella fracture, and they fix it by wiring the patella back together.

Sounds pleasant, right?

Anyway, I think I’ve stalled enough to give you all a chance not to scroll down any further if you don’t want to.

So if you are ready to see this poor bastard’s knee crater, here you go…

I see a lot of pretty gruesome injuries in my line of work, but I’ve never quite seen one like this.

Go rugby!
