81-Year-Old Woman Refuses Surgery Until After Memphis-GWU Game at NCAA Tournament
Some people can’t help but take the phrase “March Madness” literally. Take, for instance, this 81-year-old woman, who was slated to go into surgery for her collapsed lung, but refused to go into the operating room until the game between her Memphis Tigers and the George Washington Colonials was over.
I’m not a doctor, but “collapsed lung” sounds pretty serious, compared to, say, having your wisdom teeth removed or something like that. It just goes to show this particular woman’s unrivaled devotion to the University of Memphis men’s basketball team. Heck, she even has her TV set up at the hospital, which you can see in the above photo (via Twitter).
Like all good stories, this one has a happy ending, since the Tigers went on to beat GWU, 71-66. As for the collapsed lung, I assume it came out alright.
