Kobe Bryant Gets Into Venture Capitalism With Kobe Inc.
Lifetime contracts are rare in the NBA (and everywhere else), but Kobe Bryant‘s recent signing of one with the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t stop him from thinking about what he’s going to do with the rest of his time off the court, especially with all of his recent downtime from various injuries. And so we now have Kobe Inc., the entrepreneur investment arm of the Kobe Bryant brand.
According to Kobe Bryant in a recent interview with ESPN.com (check it out here), the basic aim of Kobe Inc. will be to “own and help grow brands and ideas that challenge and redefine the sports industry while inspiring.” And for the company’s first investment, the upcoming sports drink BodyArmor has been chosen. It remains to be seen just when and how BodyArmor will launch, but it will have the support of Kobe Inc. when it does.
As for what Kobe Inc. will hitch its wagon to next, only Kobe Bryant and/or his accountants could tell us for sure. But Kobe plans to steer clear of products that don’t “have the limbs of the sports industry.” Stay tuned.
