Marc-Andre Fleury Makes a Ridiculous Cartwheel Save on Daniel Alfredsson in Shootout (Video)
The Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins appear destined to face off against one another in the first round of the NHL playoffs next week. Unfortunately for all of us, there are no shootouts in NHL playoff hockey.
You see, these two teams took to the ice for one last time in the regular season on Wednesday, and while the game itself produced a total of six goals (three per side), it was the shootout that caught most people’s attention.
That’s because it included this ridiculous cartwheel save by Pens goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury on Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson:
And shortly after that there was this strange bounce during Jussi Jokinen‘s attempt, which resulted in the game-winning goal for the Penguins:
While the Wings lost the game by a score of 4-3, the single point earned for the shootout loss was all they needed to clinch their 23rd consecutive playoff appearance.
Could a first-round date with the Pens be in store for them next? We’ll have the answer to that question by Sunday afternoon, at the latest.
