Jeff Francoeur prank

Most pranks, particularly those of the locker room variety, tend to only last a few minutes, but Jeff Francoeur was recently the victim of a much more elaborate and long-term practical joke.

Francoeur, who is currently playing for the San Diego Padres’ minor league team in El Paso, is known for his kind and friendly demeanor.  That made him a perfect mark for the prank, which was set up by the Chihuahuas players.  It involved convincing him that El Paso Chihuahuas pitcher Jorge Reyes was deaf, and it lasted for more than a month.

Even if you consider the fact that tricking Jeff Francoeur into thinking one of his teammates was deaf is a little insensitive to people who are actually deaf, you have to admire the sheer logistics of executing such a prank.  Heck, the team even enlisted Reyes’ own wife to play along with the deception.

You can see the full effect of the El Paso Chihuahuas’ prank on new recruit Jeff Francoeur in the video below, cleverly titled On Jeff Ears.
