Sports Illustrated Commemorates First Anniversary of Boston Marathon Bombing with Inspiring Cover Image
Last week, Sports Illustrated asked the people of Boston to take part in a photo shoot for the cover of the April 21, 2014 issue, which commemorates the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing and celebrates the city’s resilience.
Obviously, the people responded.
On Saturday, about 3,000 of them showed up downtown in Copley Square, clad in Boston sports gear, to take part in the shoot. Joining them were dozens of runners, survivors, first responders, and, of course, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.
The result is one of the best SI covers in recent memory. Look closely at the bottom right and you’ll even see “The Cowboy Hat Hero,” Carlos Arredondo.
Inside the issue is an essay by none other than David Ortiz in which he reflects on the way the city responded to the tragedy. If you want to read it—and you should—you can either head to your local newsstand and buy it…or just follow this link.
