The NBA is full of colorful team names and mascots, but most of them are refugees from an earlier, pre-Pokemon era. So artist Micah Coles took it upon himself to reimagine every NBA team as being represented by a Pokemon instead.
I never got into Pokemon, so I won’t comment on the appropriateness or inappropriateness of these pairings—except to say that “Orlando Magikarp” made me laugh really hard for some reason.
What I can tell you is that all of the logos are really well done, and will probably be a treat for everyone who falls in the middle of a “basketball fan/Pokemon fan” Venn diagram.
You can take a look at all of Micah Coles’ NBA Pokemon team logos in the gallery up at the top of this page. And for more from Coles, you may want to check out his Twitter account here. There, Coles says he won’t be releasing t-shirts of the logos, but invites fans to do whatever they want with his work.
If that’s not an invitation to join the Orlando Magikarp for yourself, I don’t know what is.
