Hawks Beat Pacers Again Thanks to Ridiculous Off-Balance Running Three-Pointer by Jeff Teague (GIFs)
The biggest reason why the Indiana Pacers are down 2-1 in their first round playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks—literally and figuratively—is the poor play of 7’2″ center Roy Hibbert. The man who completely dominated the Miami Heat in the conference finals last season is off to a dreadful start in the 2014 playoffs, and it’s killing the Pacers.
You can’t put all the blame on Hibbert, though. The Hawks have also been blessed with an inordinate amount of good luck. And last night they got a big double dose of that when point guard Jeff Teague hit a ridiculous off-balance running three-pointer with 2:49 left in the fourth quarter.
The first dose of good luck? The shot itself, which really had no business going in.
The second dose of good luck? The officials somehow missed the fact that Teague stepped out of bounds during his mad dash to the corner. And because NBA rules only allow the use of replay to determine whether a player’s feet were behind the three-point line—and not whether he stepped out of bounds—the shot counted.
Take a look for yourself:
That crazy play gave the Hawks a commanding 87-78 lead, and they held on to win, 98-85.
Game 4 is Saturday. The Pacers better bring it, because the Hawks can do no wrong right now.
