Game 7 Between the Avalanche and Wild Was an All-Time Classic (GIFs)
Last night in Stanley Cup playoff action there were three Game 7s, and one of them is probably going to go down as an all-time classic.
The Rangers beat the Flyers 2-1 in New York in the kind of close game that makes your heart beat out of you chest. Meanwhile, in San Jose, the Kings beat the Sharks 5-1 (with two empty net goals), becoming just the fourth team ever to come back from a 3-0 series hole to win Game 7. So that’s pretty incredible.
However, it was the Colorado-Minnesota game that everyone will remember. Colorado scored first. Then Minnesota tied it. Then Colorado scored again. Then Minnesota tied it again. Then Colorado scored. Then Minnesota scored. Then Colorado scored. Then Minnesota scored. And then, in overtime, Minnesota scored again.
Final score: Minnesota Wild 5, Colorado Avalanche 4.
Here is Minnesota’s third goal, scored midway through the third period on a laser by Nino Neiderreiter:
And here is a Minnesota fan celebrating that goal with some pelvic thrusts. Note the frosted tips, which suggest he hasn’t changed his hairstyle since the Wild were founded back in 1997:
Now here is Minnesota’s fourth goal by Jared Spurgeon, another laser that tied the game with just over two minute left in the third:
It was all so exciting, poor Dany Heatley couldn’t even breathe:
Finally, here’s the game-winning overtime goal. It’s yet another laser by Nino Niederreiter:
After that came the celebrating. On the Wild bench, nobody got hurt:
But out on the ice? Yeah, there was at least one casualty:
What a series. What a game. Congratulations to the Minnesota Wild and their awesome fans.
