Spanish Bullfight Cancelled After Bulls Gore All the Matadors (Gallery)
If you’re one of those people who thinks bullfighting is a savage, barbaric sport, you’re going to like this story a lot.
Earlier this week, for the first time in 35 years, officials had to call off Madrid’s San Isidro Festival, the biggest annual bullfighting event in Spain. The reason? The bulls were kicking the matadors’ asses. The event was supposed to feature three matadors taking on a lineup of six bulls (and by “taking on” I mean killing). However, on Tuesday, they ran out of matadors after just two bulls.
David Mora, matador #1, got gored in the leg by bull #1. After that, matador #2 Antonio Nazara stepped in to finish off bull #1, but bull #2 headbutted him in the knees, knocking him out. So in stepped Saul Jimenez Fortes, matador #3. He managed to deliver a kill shot to bull #2 but was gored while doing it.
Bulls 3, Matadors 2.
None of the matadors died, of course, but all things considered, it was a good day for the bulls.
Here’s a gallery of the carnage. It’s not for the squeamish or the matador sympathizers:
