Montana State Softball Championship Concludes With Embarrassing Walk-Off Strikeout (Video)
The NCAA Softball championship could be decided tonight when the Florida Gators take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series.
With a win, the Gators could wrap up their first ever WCWS title. And with such high stakes on the line, I’m guessing they’ll take that win anyway they can get it—even if it just so happens to come on a walk-off strikeout.
Yeah, that’s right. A walk-off strikeout. You probably didn’t know there was such a thing, but there is, and we were fortunate enough to witness it during the Montana AA state softball championship over the weekend.
It all unfolded with the bases empty in the bottom of the seventh inning. After Missouri Big Sky pitcher Kendall Rauk struck out Billings West batter Kendyl Boltz, the ball got away from Missouri catcher Jaime Schafer. At that point, all Jaime needed to do was pick the ball up and make the easy throw to first, but when her throw sailed wide of the target, and was followed by a few more throwing errors, Boltz was able to make her way around the bases and cross home plate for the game-winning run.
And while all of that was going on, all Rauk could do was look on in disbelief. Now, thanks to the video below, you can watch the play in disbelief as well.
