Let’s All Make Fun of Dwyane Wade’s Ridiculous Game 2 Flop (Video)
Last year the NBA instituted a series of penalties for floppers, and it resulted in 13 fines, including eight in the playoffs. Players get fined $5,000 for the first offense, $10,000 for the second, $15,000 for the third, and $30,000 for the fourth.
Has this reduced the amount of flopping? Of course not! Players who make the league minimum of $490,000 make over $5,000 per game, and superstars with $15 million salaries make about $180,000 per game. So $10,000 isn’t going to deter anyone from doing something that’s going to help win basketball games. It’s just one of the expenses of doing business, and their accountants probably deduct the fines on their taxes. The league is unwilling to do anything that might really stop flopping (like handing out unpaid suspensions). They just want to make people think they are trying to stop flopping.
Anyway, I bring all this up because last night, during Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, we got the most ridiculous flop of the postseason from superstar Dwyane Wade.
Take a look:
That was so embarrassing, the NBA is going to have to fine D-Wade. However, since this will be Wade’s first flopping fine of the season, the fine will amount to 1/3735th of his yearly salary.
That ought to teach him, right?
