White Sox Announcer Hawk Harrelson Could Not Muster Any Enthusiasm for Mike Trout’s Game-Tying Grand Slam (Video)
Some people don’t like it when announcers root for the home team, but I don’t mind. In fact, I kind of like it. It’s sports, not international diplomacy. You’re supposed to be biased about sports. As long as an announcer is willing to call the team out when they suck, I don’t mind if they celebrate when they win.
That’s why I love Chicago White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson. In addition to sometimes saying ridiculous things without realizing it, he also just cannot feign any kind of excitement when the White Sox, say, cough up a four-run lead in the bottom of the 8th on a grand slam by Mike Trout.
Just listen to this call from Saturday night. Hawk is just so dejected. It’s like he’s doing play-by-play for his dog getting put down:
Crack!…Ball hit deep…we got ourselves a…tie ball game.
Not exactly on par with Jack Buck‘s “I don’t believe what I just saw!” call of the Kirk Gibson home run, is it?
