The Texas Rangers are Trying to Stop the Wave (Video)
Like weddings and funerals, the wave is one of those things that lots of people hate but feel compelled to go along with anyway. But Chuck Morgan, an executive with the Texas Rangers, is trying a new approach to get people at Rangers games to stop doing the damn wave.
The method he came up with is a humorous scoreboard display showing an image of LeBron James cramping up during Game 1 of the NBA Finals due to heat, along with the following message:
“The Republic of Texas Constitution written in 1836 states: a facility has the right, when playing a team from Miami, to turn off the air conditioning in the facility. If the wave continues, the AC will be turned off here tonight.”
The “warning,” which is a new version of something that’s been around for a few years now, isn’t entirely serious, but it isn’t entirely a joke either. That’s because, as Morgan tells ESPN, he gets a lot of complaints about the wave every season, and since he can’t actually outlaw the wave, this is the next best thing.
