Report: FIFA Tells USA to Be Prepared to Host the 2022 World Cup?
This year’s FIFA World Cup is only just beginning, but the location of the one that takes place eight years from now is already the source of some significant controversy.
That controversy involves accusations of widespread corruption in the currently slated 2022 home of the cup, Qatar, and is now resulting in reports that FIFA has informed the United States Soccer Federation to be prepared to host the games if the decision to pull out of Qatar is made.
However, USFF president Sunil Gulati has vehemently denied that any such contact with the USA was made, according to Bleacher Report. They also point out that FIFA is currently investigating claims that Qatar billionaire and former president of the Asian Football Confederation, Mohamed bin Hammam, engaged in bribery with FIFA officials—as well as a myriad of other claims against the United Arab emirate, and that basically anything is possible at this point.
So let’s just assume that the World Cup will be coming to America in 2022. USA! USA! USA!
