Deaf and Blind Boy ‘Watches’ the World Cup Thanks to Some Clever and Kind Friends (Video)
I’d like to think that I have friends as good as Carlos, the subject of this video, but I’m not sure. These guys might qualify for sainthood.
Carlos is a Brazilian boy who is both deaf and blind, which means he has little to go on in rooting for the host nation at the 2014 World Cup.
However, hope wasn’t lost for two of his friends, Hélio Fonseca de Araujo and Regiane Pereira, who built a miniature textured field so that Carlos could feel where the ball was and what players were doing. One friend would guide his arms while another one would write updates on his back.
Pretty awesome. Way more informative than when I start screaming and stomping. and my dog just looks at me like I’m an idiot.
Here’s a video of the construction process, some background on Carlos, and what it looks like when they all watch the game:
I don’t know if the support of Carlos, Helio, and Regiane will make a difference for Brazil in the tournament, but the country’s still lucky to have these guys as citizens.
