David Ortiz Was Halfway to First Base Before Ball Four Even Hit the Catcher’s Mit, Because He’s Psychic (Video + GIF)
Now we can add psychic to that list.
Last night the Red Sox hosted the Chicago Cubs at Fenway. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th with one on and two out, Cubs manager Rick Renteria decided like many a manager before him that, if his team was going to get beat, Big Papi wasn’t going to be the one to do it. So Renteria had pitcher Neil Ramirez give Ortiz the unintentional intentional walk.
Of course, everyone knew what was going on. The fans knew it. The announcers knew it. And Big Papi knew it. So rather than just wait around for the inevitable, Ortiz decided to get a jump on his walk to first base while the pitcher was still in his windup.
Take a look:
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a batter show up a pitcher on a walk before.
Leave it to Big Papi.
