On Friday afternoon, the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup was tarnished by one reckless challenge.

In the 87th minute of Brazil’s 2-1 win over Colombia in the quarterfinals, Colombian defender Juan Zuniga plowed knee-first into Brazilian superstar Neymar from behind, knocking him to the ground in agony. At the time nobody knew the extent of the injury, but the world later learned that Zuniga’s knee had fractured a vertebra in Neymar’s back.

Luckily, doctors say Neymar will make a full recovery in six to eight weeks. However, that means he won’t be available for Brazil’s semifinal match against Germany on July 8, nor would he be available should Brazil advance to the final against either Argentina or the Netherlands on July 13. And that isn’t just horrible news for Brazilian soccer fans. It’s sad news for anyone who was looking forward to seeing some of the world’s best players fight for one of the most prestigious championships in all of sports.

That being said, nobody is more torn up about this than Neymar himself, which is pretty understandable seeing as how his lifelong dream of winning the World Cup for his country was taken away from him. However, despite his sadness, on Saturday Neymar took the time to make a video thanking his fellow Brazilians for their outpouring of support.

“My dream was also to play in a World Cup final but this time it didn’t work out,” Neymar says. “But God willing, they’re going to win this, they’re going to be champions, and I’m going to be by their side with them. And all us Brazilians are going to be celebrating.”

Take a look:

Did that give you goosebumps? Yeah, me too.
