MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger Predicted Mike Trout Would Drive in Jeter with a Triple, and He Did (Video)
This Gruesome Sight Is What Happens When You Try to Catch a Giancarlo Stanton HR with Your Bare Hands (Pic and Tweet)
Whoa. I knew you had to hit a ball hard to knock it out of the stands, but I figured with trajectory, air resistance, magical elves, and global warming that it would be a little more manageable to snag barehanded than, say, a line drive to the pitcher.
This sight is what happened to a fan at the Home Run Derby after he tried to snag a dinger from Giancarlo Stanton. It was posted by Twitter user Jordan Jacobson, but it’s not explicitly clear that it’s his hand in the photo.
It didn’t go well. I think. It’s hard to tell. I mean, his ring finger is grossly swollen (look at it next to his unscathed pinky), but then you look at his thumb, and it appears that it’s just weird-looking to begin with. Who knows.
Regardless, it’s a pretty remarkable image, and a good PSA that catching a foul ball or home run with your bare hands could be very, very dangerous. But is still better than bringing your glove to the field like a dork.
Here’s the Tweet that brought the pic to light:
