Gambling on Your Children Pays: Rory McIlroy Wins 2014 British Open, Dad Collects $171,000 in Winnings
Rory McIlroy Trolls Liverpool Fans After Winning 2014 British Open (Video)
In case you didn’t realize it, the 2014 British Open was played at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which, as you can probably deduce, is in Liverpool.
On paper that should not have been a problem for winner Rory McIlroy. He hails from just outside Belfast in Northern Ireland and, outside Caroline Wozniacki and her family and friends, is a pretty likable guy. After four brilliant round of golf and a wire-to-wire victory at the Open Championships, he should have been roundly cheered by the crowd during his post-tournament speech. And he was…until he decided to troll them.
You see, for British sports fans, soccer allegiance trumps everything. So when the guy told the crowd that had just cheered him that he was a fan of Manchester United, a.k.a. The Enemy, they didn’t hesitate to voice their collective displeasure.
Take a look:
Sure, McIlroy, you’ve got the balls to admit your allegiance after the tournament. Next time come out of the closet before hand and see what happens.
