Jamie Foxx Will Play Mike Tyson In Boxer’s Upcoming Biopic
Jamie Foxx, who garnered some ringside experience during his time on Ali, is getting back into the (fictional) ring, this time playing troubled former heavyweight Mike Tyson in a film about the boxer’s life. Director Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos) will helm the project.
It’s not known what era(s) of Tyson’s life the biopic will focus on, but it’s a safe bet that Jamie Foxx won’t be playing a teenager in the Catskills. That said, Foxx is a pretty obvious choice physically to play Tyson, and it’s a safe bet that he’ll get the speech patterns down as well. The only wild card left would be getting in physical shape. And while Foxx can’t change his height to more closely resemble the stocky Tyson, he can probably get jacked beyond belief to mirror his proportions.
No word yet on a release date, but, given the timing of the announcement, I wouldn’t expect anything before the holidays of 2015. Fortunately, there’s always this project in the meantime if you need your Mike Tyson fix before then.
