Doctors Say Jim Kelly Is Cancer Free
Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly took the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls but was never able to add “Super Bowl Champion” to his resumé.
Maybe that used to eat Kelly up. Maybe it didn’t. What I know for sure is that, right now, he couldn’t care less. And that’s because, right now, Jim Kelly is on the verge of adding something far more awesome to his resumé—cancer survivor.
Kelly’s hospital released an official statement yesterday afternoon, and it’s all good news.
“The treatments so far have completely eliminated Mr. Kelly’s pain and his level of function has essentially returned to normal,” said Dr. Peter Costantino in a media release from Lennox Hill Hospital. “Further, on physical examination, there is no evidence of the cancer.”
Kelly is not out of the woods just yet. Doctors still have to do more tests, and as most of us know, when it comes to cancer you can never be too sure. But as of right now, it looks like Kelly is cancer free.
In an Instagram post, Jim’s wife Jill Kelly issued the following statement:
“We have come away from our checkup visit in NYC encouraged and hopeful. Preliminary scan results have necessitated the need for biopsies to be done in order to confirm what we hope to be true…that the cancer has been eradicated. We will not know the outcome until this procedure is completed. And so… We continue to PRAY, rejoice, live…wait and trust GOD who holds ALL things together. God, who is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End and every moment in between. In the midst of it all, I know He’s got this. Thank you for praying! Thank you for holding us up during this time. We are so grateful for you! #prayersforjk #kellytough”
Let’s all hope the “further tests” go well. The Kelly family has been amazing throughout this whole ordeal, inspiring an untold number of cancer patients and their families with their strength and candidness. If anybody deserves some good news, it’s them.
