Michael Sam Mocks Johnny Manziel After Sacking Him (GIFs)
As you’ve probably heard by now, on Saturday night the two biggest stories of the 2014 NFL Draft had a pretty memorable encounter.
College football superstar-turned-Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel scrambled for a touchdown against the Rams in the third quarter and celebrated by making his signature “money” gesture. Then, in the fourth quarter, Manziel got sacked by Michael Sam, the first openly gay person ever selected in the NFL Draft, and Sam got up and did what every player who sacks Johnny Football will do this year: he mocked Manziel with his own “money” gesture.
At some point that will probably get old, but right now it’s still pretty great.
Here’s Manziel’s touchdown:
And here he is getting sacked:
Of course, what you may not realize is that Michael Sam and Johnny Manziel have a little history. The two were both stars in the SEC last year, Manziel being Manziel and Sam being the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. And just because Sam didn’t record a sack against Manziel in Missouri’s 28-21 win over Texas A&M, that doesn’t mean he didn’t clobber Mr. Football.
Here’s Sam with the late hit after a touchdown pass:
Point is, Saturday night’s taunt wasn’t just a one-off. It was a continuation of a rivalry.
You gotta love it.
