Move Over Red Lightning: Auburn Ball Boy Jake Longenecker Nearly Outruns Auburn Wide Receiver on Touchdown Run (Video)
It’s a well-known fact that the success of the Florida State Seminoles last year was primarily due to the historic performance of ball boy Red Lightning. Sure, Jameis Winston was good. But he would have been nothing without equipment manager Frankie Grizzle-Malgrat, who could be seen sprinting down the sidelines on just about every FSU scoring play like some sort of redbearded guardian angel.
Of course, given the fame Red Lightning achieved last year, not to mention the fact that the Noles won the National Championship, it should come as no surprise that there would be imitators this year. And ironically, the first imitator to emerge is an equipment manager for the team FSU defeated in the championship game last year: Auburn.
On Saturday, during the first quarter of Auburn’s 45-21 thrashing of Arkansas, QB Jeremy Johnson threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Melvin Ray. And nearly outrunning Ray down the sideline, all the way to the endzone, was Auburn ball boy Jake Longenecker.
Take a look:
That is some blazing speed. Looks like Red Lightning has some competition this season in Mr. Longenecker.
