Epic Block: UTSA Player Josiah Monroe Absolutely Destroys Arizona Defender (GIF)

UTSA Roadrunners football player destroys Arizona player with epic block

The 2014 NFL season kicked off last night with a game between two of the league’s elite franchises. But the biggest football hit of the night? Yeah, that came from a 5’6″, 180-pound receiver for the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners.

If you’ve never heard of the UTSA Roadrunners, there’s a good reason for that. The program is only three years old and this is just their fourth season. However, the truth of the matter is these guys have been amazingly decent from the get-go. After going 4-6 in the NCAA D-I FCS in their innagural season, the Roadrunners joined the Western Athletic Conference and moved up to the NCAA D-I FBS in their second season, going 8-4. Then, last year, they moved to Conference USA and went 7-5.

Now the Roadrunners have a whopping 38 seniors. And since none of them were blue chip recruits, they apparently feel like they have something to prove.

That brings us to wide receiver Josiah Monroe. He’s listed at 5’6″ and 180 pounds, but last night he laid a devastating block on an Arizona Wildcats defender that left him seeing stars.

The Roadrunners wound up losing the game 26-23, but I think they made a statement. Underestimate them at your own peril.
