You would think the most interesting thing about last night’s Ravens-Steelers game was the way Baltimore was able to bear down, maintain focus amidst all the Ray Rice business, and pull out a convincing 26-6 victory. But no. The most interesting thing about last night’s Ravens-Steelers game was, in fact, Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs wearing a gladiator helmet.

Suggs didn’t wear it during the game, of course. The NFL doesn’t even allow gladiator-style face masks anymore, let alone an actual gladiator helmet. He just wore it when he ran out of the tunnel during the pre-game introductions.

So why was Terrell Suggs wearing a gladiator helmet?

“I just thought that we needed a boost,” he explained. “I couldn’t afford to start slow. I just wanted to get the crowd and my team in there early.”

That said, it was really all Haloti Ngata‘s idea. “He was like, ‘Yeah, you should do it. It would be tight.’”

The Ravens PR people thought it was a swell idea, too, so they published this Vine of Suggs running out of the tunnel:

Of course, if I were charge of the Ravens’ social media accounts, given all the stuff that’s gone down this week I probably wouldn’t have done anything to draw attention to another Ravens player with a history of domestic violence. But hey, that’s just me.
