Darren Sproles Unstoppable in Eagles’ Huge Comeback Win Over Colts (Videos)
They’re just two games into the 2014 season, and the high-octane Chip Kelly offense definitely needs a little fine tuning. But so far Darren Sproles is starting to look like a pretty good pickup for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last night the second string “running back” was pretty much unstoppable, sparking Philly to a thrilling comeback victory over Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. Sproles racked up 26 yards rushing and 152 yards receiving, coming up huge in the third and fourth quarters.
Of course, that’s not to say Sproles wasn’t good at the start of the game. He was. In the first quarter he turned a short Nick Foles pass to the middle of the field into a 57-yard gain. But the Eagles offense as a whole had trouble clicking, and thus they fell behind the Colts 17-6 at the half and 20-6 early in the third quarter.
That’s when Sproles really got going. With the Eagles down seven late in the third quarter, Sproles willed his way into the endzone with this brilliant 19-yard run:
Then, late in the fourth quarter after the Colts had taken another seven-point lead, Sproles came to the Eagles’ rescue again when he turned another short pass from Foles into a 51-yard gain that set up a Jeremy Maclin touchdown:
Big tipper LeSean McCoy had a solid game (79 yards, 1 TD), as did quarterback Nick Foles (331 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT). But the Eagles wouldn’t be 2-0 right now if not for Darren Sproles.
