Legendary Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is very old. For that reason he is retiring at the end of this year. And, like all future Hall of Famers these days, that means Derek Jeter got a season-long farewell tour, wherein each and every team the Yankees visited was legally obligated to lavish the Captain with gifts he could have just as easily bought for himself with the $253.4 million he has earned over the last 18 years.

Of course, not all Derek Jeter retirement gifts are created equal. Some are creative and thoughtful. Others not so much. And today we’re going to rank them all, because that’s what we do here on the interwebz. We arbitrarily rank things that you didn’t even know could be ranked.

In all seriousness, though, the vast majority of the gifts give to Jeter were very nice. So take a look.

17 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Kansas City Royals donations (August 25)

Somebody has to be last, and in this case it’s the Royals. They gave Jeter a very generous $10,000 donation to his charitable Turn 2 Foundation and…that’s it. No framed memorabilia. No kitschy old person stuff, like a rocking chair. No customized golf clubs. Just the donation. And that makes sense, because the Royals really don’t have much money to spare. In fact, that $10K probably means the team has to eat nothing but Kraft mac & cheese for the remainder of the season.

16 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Milwaukee Brewers gold plated bat (May 11)

The Milwaukee Brewers one-upped the Royals. In addition to a $10,000 donation to Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation, they also gave him a fancy bronzed bat, presumably engraved with some sort of approbation pertaining to his career.

15 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Cincinnati Reds signed framed jerseys (July 19)

The Yankees didn’t play in Cincinnati this year. But the Reds wanted to let him know he’s not the first great shortstop in the history of baseball, so they gave him two signed jerseys from their two greatest (World Series-winning) shortstops: 9x All-Star and 5x Gold Glove-winner Davey Concepcion, and 12x All-Star, 3x Gold Glove-winner, and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin.

14 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Minnesota Twins second base from final game at Metrodome 2009 ALDS (July 5)

The Metrodome was a really place to play baseball, but it’s where the Twins won two World Series titles in a span of five years, so it was special to them. And that makes their retirement gift to Derek Jeter—the second base from the final game ever played at the Metrodome, a 4-1 series clinching win by the Yankees in the 2009 ALDS—a special one.

Oh, and they also donated $10,000 to his foundation.

13 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Seattle Mariners Kingdome Seat + base + engraved watch + donations to turn 2 foundation (June 10)

Jeter made his major league debut and got his first major league hit at the old Kingdome against the Mariners, so this was a fairly special stop on his farewell tour. Then the Mariners made it even more special by giving him a seat from the Kingdome—No. 2, of course—a second base bag from Safeco Field, and a $5,000 check for his Turn 2 Foundation.

Oh, and former teammate Robinson Cano gave him a $23,000 Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) edition gold Hublot watch. Inscription: “To Derek, with love and respect, RC. Thank you for showing me how to be a leader.”

Awwww!

12 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Oakland As customized abreau ranch cabernet + resort stay in napa valley + donation to turn 2 foundation (June 15)

The Oakland A’s gave Jeter the usual donation to his Turn 2 Foundation, but they tacked an extra two bucks on the end just to be cute.

They also gave him a customized bottle of Abreau Ranch cabernet and a wine-tasting trip to Napa Valley. Which I’m sure Jeter will enjoy, because he’s so classy.

11 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - White Sox baseball bench and shortstop dirt (May 25)

That bench made of a bunch of baseball stuff is really lame. (Where’s he going to put that?) However, the White Sox also gave Jeter some shortstop dirt from the old Comiskey Park, which is pretty cool, and a $5,000 donation to the ALS Foundation.

Nah, j/k, it was to the Turn 2 Foundation.

The Blue Jays stayed on trend and gave Jeter’s foundation ten grand. However, they also gave him a ski trip to Banff, Alberta. And if you’ve never seen pictures of Banff, Alberta, let me tell you it’s a pretty spectacular place.

9 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim paddle board (May 7)

The Angels apparently didn’t get the memo about making a donation to the Turn 2 Foundation. However, they did present Jeter with a pretty sweet Yankees-themed paddle board. And since Jeter officially lives in Tampa, he might actually use that.

8 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Houston Astros cowboy boots and 10 gallon hat and golf clubs and golf lessons (April 2)

The Houston Astros were the first team to shower Derek Jeter with retirement gifts this season, presenting him with Yankees cowboy boots, a 10 gallon hat, golf clubs (because he probably didn’t have any already) and golf lessons.

Sorry, at-risk youths, no donation to the Turn 2 Foundation.

6 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - St. Louis Cardinals Stan Musial cufflinks + donation (May 26)

The St. Louis Cardinals gave Jeter a pretty original retirement gifts: Stan Musial cuff links. And as you can see, Jeter thought they were pretty special.

The Redbirds also made a $10,000 donation to the Turn 2 Foundation, but that oversized novelty check aint gonna keep his shirt sleeves lookin’ fresh.

5 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - New York Mets Subway Series cake and painting and subway tile mosaic (May 15)

The Mets had to make sure they gave Jeter all kinds of sweet swag or else they’d never hear the end of it in New York. So the Captain’s haul? An original Jeter-subway series painting, a subway series cake, a pretty awesome subway tile mosaic of the number 2, and a $22,222.22 donation to the Turn 2 Foundation.

4 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Cleveland Indians pinstripe guitar (July 10)

If the Cleveland Indians had given Jeter either a Lego portrait of himself or a Yankee pinstriped Gibson guitar, that would have been pretty cool. The fact that they gave him both makes this one of the better Derek Jeter retirement gifts we’ve seen.

3 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Baltimore Orioles giant crab mallet and crab cakes and cake and navy captain hat (September 14)

Derek Jeter will always be remembered in Baltimore for his part in one of the most infamous moments in Orioles history—Jeter’s Jeffrey Maier home run in Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS. However, the O’s showed they have no ill-will toward the Yankees shortstop when they presented him with a bucket of steamed crabs, a personalized oversized crab mallet, a cake, a Navy Captain’s hat (get it, Jeter’s nickname is the Captain?) and, last but not least, a $10,000 donation to the Turn 2 Foundation.

Seriously, check out that crab mallet.

2 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Chicago Cubs 2 from Wrigley scoreboard (May 20)

The Cubs didn’t have to spent a lot of money to give Derek Jeter a pretty special gift. In fact, in terms of dollar value, their gift—a #2 from the famous Wrigley Field scoreboard—was probably worth about ten or twenty bucks. But I bet you anything it’s one of the Captain’s favorites.

1 Derek Jeter retirement gifts - Texas Rangers cowboy boots and signed photo from President George W Bush (July 30)

The Texas Rangers gave Jeter another pair of cowboy boots and a $10,000 donation to the Turn 2 Foundation. However, the coolest gift they gave was a signed photo of Jeter giving President George W. Bush advice on throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series.

Of course, as you may recall, that was just six weeks after the September 11th terror attacks destroyed the iconic Twin Towers, when the was city rocked to its core. So that scene—the President of the United States standing in the middle of Yankee Stadium and throwing a strike—gave the entire nation goose bumps. The fact that Jeter played a part in it is surely something he will never forget.
