Here’s the Worst Fake Punt Ever, Courtesy of the Arkansas State Red Wolves (Video)

worst fake punt ever arkansas state fake death

I know you might be thinking. “Come on, the worst fake punt ever? Are you sure?” And you’re right. I’m not 100% certain the trick play you are about to watch is the worst fake punt ever. But I’m certain it’s got to be pretty damn close.

It comes to us courtesy of Arkansas State. In the midst of losing 41-20 to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, the Red Wolves attempted a fake punt on 4th and 5 from the ‘Canes 40 late in the second quarter. And as it was drawn up, this fake punt entailed—I kid you not—one of the Arkansas State players faking his own death.

Let that sink in for a moment.

We have to assume the fake death was supposed to be some sort of wacky diversion tactic. However, the only thing it was good for was distracting us from the punter’s hilariously feeble throw into double coverage. The Hurricanes didn’t bat an eye.

In case you’re wondering, Arkansas State is coached by Blake Anderson, former offensive coordinator of North Carolina and Southern Miss.

He should probably send that one back to the drawing board.
