New Derek Jeter Gatorade Commercial Cranks the Sentimentality Up to 11 (Video)
There’s a new Derek Jeter Gatorade commercial, and it has a little something for everyone.
If you’re a card-carrying Jeter-lover and you just can’t get enough of all the schmaltzy Derek Jeter retirement stuff, I suspect this commercial might stimulate your tear ducts, or at the very least cause a few goosebumps. However, if you like Jeter but don’t think his retirement merits six months of gifts and ceremonies, this new Derek Jeter Gatorade commercial will give you something else to complain about. And that’s cool, because don’t we actually love complaining about stuff that drives us crazy?
Anyway, in the new ad, Jeter is riding in a car on his way to Yankee Stadium when he decided to get out and walk the rest of the way, interacting with school children, garbage workers, bar flies, old ladies, and Yankees fans filing in for a game—all of whom treat him like some sort of demigod.
Then, as Jeter is about to take the field one last time at Yankee stadium, he looks knowingly at the camera…and seduces your girlfriend.
Like I said, if you love all this Derek Jeter retirement stuff, you’ll love this. If not, you’ll probably love to hate it.
Take a look:
Derek Jeter’s career comes to an end on Sunday, September 28, 2014. After that, because the Yankees won’t be in the postseason, you won’t have to hear about Derek Jeter’s retirement ever again…until the 2015 ESPY Awards, where they’ll probably introduce some leadership award named after the guy.
