Philadelphia Flyers Players Got Into Seven Different Fights Last Night (Videos)

Last season the Philadelphia Flyers were first in the NHL in total penalty minutes (1,180) and second in major penalties (46), so this is a team that likes to drop the gloves. However, last night’s stats were a little ridiculous even for them. The Flyers played two split squad games against the Capitals and Maple Leaf, and between them there were seven fights.

That’s right. Seven.

Five came against the Caps, while the other two came against the Leafs who, incidentally, were the only team with more major penalties than the Flyers last year.

Of course, fights are a little more common during the NHL preseason, where goons and tough guys are trying to prove to the coaches that they’ll do whatever it takes to make the team. But still, seven fights is pretty extreme.

Here they are, one by one:

Liam O’Brien vs. Derek Mathers

Garrett Mitchell vs. Brayden Schenn

Kris Newbury vs. Blair Jones

Steve Oleksy vs. Blair Jones

Chris Brown vs. Chris VandeVelde

Zack Stortini vs. Frazer McLaren

Korbinian Holzer vs. Wayne Simmonds

It’s still early, but I’d say any team that plays the Philadelphia Flyers this year better be ready to fight. These guys obviously aren’t messing around.
