Canucks Anthem Singer Trips Up on Skates During National Anthem (Video)
The Canucks anthem singer may have raised the bar for showmanship a little too high on Friday night.
The singer, Mark Donnelly, who often performs over the top renditions of the anthem for the Canucks, was invited to sing the national anthem for the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League during their home opener on Friday. Unfortunately, on this occasion he decided to sing while skating around the ice…and over two intersecting red carpets.
One thing the Canucks anthem singer forgot to consider was that ice skates don’t glide over carpet very well. Or at all. They stop. While your body keeps moving forward. While you sing “O Canada.” And tens of thousands of people watch reverently.
AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.
The Canucks anthem singer ate sh*t during the national. Way to fly a little to close to the sun there, Icarus.
Here’s the video. Feel free to laugh. He deserves it:
It’s terrific that he tried to be nonchalant about it, but a little misguided. Lots of people saw, Mark. It’s okay to break down and start crying. In fact, that would have been far funnier. Or at least equally funny.
