On Monday morning, a 6-year-old girl named Miyah Telemaque-Nelson lost her battle with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a form of cancer. This led to a very emotional John Wall post-game interview on Monday night.

Wall had befriended Miyah back in March, five months after she was diagnosed. A friend of Wall’s told him about a social media campaign trying to help Miyah meet Nicki Minaj. Wall was moved by the girl’s story, and since he knew people who knew Minaj, he thought maybe he and his million-plus Twitter followers could help. So he sent tickets to her family, arranged to meet them, and made a video with Miyah that went viral and culminated in the girl getting her wish.

Wall didn’t lose touch with Miyah and her family after she met Nicki Minaj, though. They remained friends and would talk on FaceTime every so often.

The Wizard’s star was thus pretty broken up when he received the sad news on Monday. However, he wrote “RIP Miyah” on his sneakers and channeled his grief into a 26-point, 17-assist performance dedicated to her.

Then he broke down in the post-game interview:

Our thoughts go out to Miyah’s family and all who knew her.
