mutumbo shares popcorn with william and kate

In case you haven’t heard, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—a.k.a. William and Kate—are in New York this week. I don’t know why, and normally I wouldn’t care. (Didn’t we fight the Revolutionary War because we didn’t want to have to care?) But they stopped by the Barclay’s Center on Monday night to take in the Nets-Cavs game. And that was pretty amusing, because the NBA rolled out the red carpet and sent all their top dignitaries. Like Dikembe Mutombo.

Here they are posing awkwardly with NBA Prime Minister Adam Silver before the game:

And here they are with H.R.H. LeBron James I, Duke of Cleveland:

After the official league photo-ops, the Royal couple headed down to their courtside seats, where they were received by America’s version of William and Kate, Jay-Z and Beyoncée:

And then, once the game began, the Royals were treated to some free popcorn by the NBA’s Foreign Relations Minister, Mr. Mutombo:

Personally, I was hoping Mutombo would encourage William to reach in for some popcorn only to pull the box back and wag his finger at him. Because that would have been AMAZING. But it didn’t happen, because apparently Mutombo has gone soft.

Oh well.
