Mike Yeo Tirade: Wild Coach Rips Players After Lackadaisical Practice (Video)
By all accounts, Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo is a pretty mild-mannered guy. So what could have brought on the Mike Yeo tirade to which the Wild players were subjected at practice on Wednesday? In a nutshell, underachievement.
Much was expected of the Wild this year. Last season they went 43-27-12 and upset the second-seeded Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs in an epic seven-game series before getting eliminated by the defending champion Blackhawks, 4-2. After that run, management sensed something special was coming together, so they went out and signed top free agent Thomas Vanek to complement veterans Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, and Jason Pominville. The Wild were supposed to be good this year.
Unfortunately, so far, they are not. Maybe the team lost its chemistry. Maybe the fact that their two best players both lost their dads in the last five months has everybody bummed out. (Suter’s dad passed away in September. Parise’s dad passed away yesterday.) Whatever it is, the team has just two wins in its last 10 games. And after losing again on Tuesday, falling to 11th place in the West, six points behind the eighth-place Jets, their coach expected the guys to come out and practice hard on Wednesday. But they did not. So instead they got this Mike Yeo tirade.

Personally, I’ve seen angrier rants in lingerie football. But when you don’t get angry very often, it doesn’t take much to send a message.
