While the NFL is a decidedly un-wholesome institution, it’s generally accepted that the Super Bowl halftime show will serve as bland, inoffensive fun for everyone. And normally, aside from middle fingers and bare breasts, it is. So who the hell put that dude in the script?

Was this an easter egg done by the producers, knowing that this would make sportswriters do YET ANOTHER article on last night’s Super Bowl halftime show? Because if so…nice job, guys. It worked. I’m writing about it.

There seemed to be a dead ghost hanging out, eyes glazed and jaw agape behind Katy Perry. Was he an errant stage hand? A scripted cast member gone terribly, terribly wrong? A dead person haunting Phoenix? Here it is in its entirety:
