spanish basketball brawl

The Spanish basketball brawl you are about to see was about as nasty as they come. In fact, it was just a Ron Artest away from turning into a Spanish Malice at the Palace.

It all went down at the Liga ACB game between Laboral Kutxe Bakonia and Bilbao Basket on Sunday. With just eight seconds left in the game, Bilbao ran a fast break play down the court even though they were up by 16 points. As a result, Bilbao’s Dejan Todorovic got fouled pretty hard by Laboral’s Tornike Shengelia as he went in for the layup—because nobody likes it when you try to run up the score.

Unfortunately, Todorovic took exception to the foul, so he ran up behind Shengelia and pushed him from behind. And Shengelia responded by punching Todorovic in the face.

Cue the brawl.

Below you can watch the video. Make sure you make it to the 1:57 mark to see Tornike Shengelia apologizing to a poor kid who nearly got crushed.

Obviously, brawls are bad, so I can’t exactly condone this one. However, I will say that I don’t really blame Laboral players for being testy. Running a fast break when you’re up by 16 is bush league. Bilbao should be ashamed of themselves.
