Wisconsin Practices Diving for Loose Balls Ahead of Game on Minnesota’s Weird Elevated Floor (Video)
File this one under “things you don’t see every day.”
On Thursday, No. 6 Wisconsin travelled to Minneapolis at play Minnesota with a chance to clinch the Big Ten regular season title, and they weren’t going to leave anything to chance. You see, the court at the Gophers’ Williams Arena is raised about two feet off the ground. Just because. And as you can imagine, that can cause problems for players who aren’t used to it, especially when trying to keep balls in play. So head coach Bo Ryan came up with a solution.
Watch as Wisconsin practices diving…and sliding off the edge of the Minnesota Gophers’ elevated floor:
It’s unclear whether everybody had to practice diving at Minnesota, or just the freshmen. Either way, it’s probably the weirdest basketball drill in which any of them have ever taken part.
Of course, it worked. Wisconsin handled Minnesota with ease Thursday night, winning 76-63 and clinching that (essentially meaningless) Big Ten regular season title.
