Michael Sam Dancing with the Stars Proves Gay Athletes Aren’t Any Better at Ballroom Dancing than Straight Athletes (Video)
Michael Sam‘s NFL career stalled a bit last year. After almost making the Rams roster out of training camp, the 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Year signed on with the Cowboys practice squad. However, he never got the chance to join the 53-man roster in Dallas, and he was cut at the end of October.
Sam is still a very good defensive end. There’s a good possibility he’ll be invited to somebody’s training camp, and if things go right he could still become the first openly gay player to play a regular-season game in the NFL. But right now that dream is on hold, and to pass the time Sam is competing on whatever season this is of Dancing with the Stars.
Of course, he’s hardly the first NFL player to take the DWTS stage. Hell, Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver all won the damn thing. But Michael Sam is the first openly gay NFL player to take the DWTS stage…which of course means absolutely nothing.
In any case, if like me you missed Sam’s DWTS debut last night because you never watch DWTS, here it is:
Obviously, he needs to work on a few things.
Good luck to Michael Sam on DWTS, and good luck finding an NFL job this summer.
