Fenerbahce Team Bus Gets Shot Up by Unknown Gunmen (Video)

Traveling to the Trabzon airport, the bus carrying the Turkish soccer team Fenerbahce was shot up by unknown gunmen on Saturday night. Fenerbahce was traveling through a highway that is near the home of their bitter Turkish Super Lig rivals, Trabzonspor, so this could just be a very, very ugly instance of rivalry or soccer fanaticism.

The driver of the bus, of all people, was taken to the hospital with injuries, though it’s not clear if those came from getting shot, or the fallout afterwards. No one else was injured.

Fenerbahce had asked that the league play be suspended for a week, and it appears that this morning, that request was granted, as this casts a long, long shadow over any sport being played in the near future. 

The Turkish soccer team was scheduled to play a game on Wednesday, with quarterfinal playoffs taking place next weekend. Those have been pushed back to an undeclared date.
