Oregon Steeplechase Runner Celebrates Too Early, Loses (Video)

by: Penn Collins On  Monday, April 13, 2015

Oregon’s Tanguy Pepiot needs to learn the phrase “act like you’ve been there before.” The emotive steeplechase runner for Oregon started celebrating his win a bit too early, and ended up losing the race because of it. Damn cocky steeplechase runners. They’re all flash, I tell ya.

At the Pepsi Team Invitational, the Oregon runner was battling racers from Kentucky and Washington. It seemed that Tanguy Pepiot had the long-distance race locked up, so he started to gloat a little by trying to get the crowd pumped up.

Mistake #1: Trying to get the crowd pumped up for a steeplechase event.

Here’s the video. EYES ON THE PRIZE, PEPIOT.

That’s Washington’s Meron Simon breathing down his neck and eventually taking 1st place as Pepiot realizes his folly.

To add insult to injury, this was the steeplechase, so not only did the Oregon runner lose the race, but he probably had wet shoes and blisters by the time it was all over.
