TNT’s Ernie Johnson Gave His Sports Emmy to Stuart Scott’s Daughters
The 35th Annual Sports Emmy Awards were held at the Lincoln Center in New York on Tuesday night. Normally, that would not be news. Charles Barkley, Terry Bradshaw, and Tim McCarver are all multiple Sports Emmy winners, so it’s hard to take the awards too seriously. However, this year was different.
In January, the sports broadcasting world lost a legend when SportsCenter host Stuart Scott passed away at the age of 49. And the 35th Annual Sports Emmys featured two lovely tributes to the groundbreaking broadcaster.
First, nine current and former SportsCenter anchors gathered on stage to pay tribute to their late colleague.

Then, in a class act move that stole the entire show, TNT’s Ernie Johnson called Stuart Scott’s daughters up on stage and gave them the Sports Emmy he had just won for Outstanding Studio Host, saying “this belongs with Stuart Scott.”

In case you were wondering, no, Stuart Scott never did win a Sports Emmy, which of course is preposterous considering the monumental impact he had in the world of sports in general and sports broadcasting in particular. Hats off to the impeccable Ernie Johnson for recognizing this oversight and making it right.
