Bobby Bowden Calls Jameis Winston “An Embarrassment” on Paul Finebaum Show
Bobby Bowden calls Jameis Winston “an embarrassment”? Yeah, those are pretty harsh words coming from a guy who once wrote a letter to a judge asking him to go easy on a former player who had raped four women…and shot one of them.
The legendary Florida State Seminoles football coach (1976-2009) made the comment during an appearance on ESPN’s The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday.
Here’s the entire quote:
“I think it’s a consensus among Florida State fans and boosters that he was an embarrassment in a lot of ways to the university. He won a lot of ballgames, probably one of the best football players that ever attended Florida State, but he hurt himself off the field. The good news is he’s young enough to get over that. He just can’t make those junior high school decisions that he made when he was in college.”
Now, we have to note that Bowden didn’t say Winston was an embarrassment plain and simple. He qualified “embarrassment” with “in a lot of ways,” something Paul Finebaum left out of his initial tweet so as to make the quote more sensational.

Still, Bobby is the first person affiliated with FSU to publicly denounce Winston’s problematic off-field behavior—which includes an alleged rape, taking a five-finger discount on some crab legs, and standing up in the middle of a university cafeteria and shouting “f— her right in the p—-.” So this is still somewhat newsworthy.
