Pepe Puts the Kibosh on Ronaldo Hat Trick Celebration After Real Madrid Is Eliminated from Liga Title Race (Video)
Most European soccer clubs would consider a second-place finish domestically and a top-four finish in the Champions League a successful season. But not Real Madrid. They expect to win the Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League—or at least one of those—every single year. So the fact that they came away with zero trophies this season is a pretty huge disappointment.
Unfortunately, Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t feeling disappointed after scoring a hat trick in Real’s win over Espanyol on Saturday. Even though Barcelona’s win over Atético Madrid gave them the Liga title, Ronaldo was feeling very happy about his performance and the fact that he’d locked up the Liga scoring titel, and it showed…until Pepe told him that celebrating his personal triumph in light of the team’s failure was not cool. Then Ronaldo changed his tune.
Take a look:
This, of course, is the problem with Ronaldo, and why everyone loves to make fun of him so much. He’s one of the most skilled players in the history of the game, but he’s not a leader. If he were, he wouldn’t have to be told not to act happy after getting eliminated from the race for the league title.
That doesn’t make him a bad person, mind you. But it does make him someone we root against. Because that’s just how sports works.
