Rockets Troll Steph Curry by Sending Seldom-Used Rookie to Shake Hands Before Game 1 of West Finals (Video)
Rockets troll Steph Curry? Seems like a pretty dumb idea to me. Seems to me like the last thing you’d want is to piss off the reigning NBA MVP and provide him with more motivation to kick your ass. But apparently it seemed like a good idea to the Rockets, because on Tuesday night before Game 1 of the 2015 Western Conference Finals, they chose seldom-used rookie Nick Johnson to serve as their captain. So it was his job to go out and shake hands with Curry rather than the obvious choice, James Harden.
Of course, as you probably know, Curry and Harden were the two front-runners for the NBA MVP award this year. So if I had to guess, I’d say the message the Rockets were trying to send was something along the lines of, “Curry-Harden rivalry? Oh, is that a thing? It didn’t even occur to us since Harden is obviously so much better than anyone else.”
That’s certainly how Curry took it. He was obviously not amused by the stunt, looking back at Nick Johnson and shaking his head as he walked away from their meet-and-greet:
So how did Curry respond to the slight? Pretty much exactly how you’d expect. He scored a game-high 34 points, leading the Warriors from 16 points down in the second quarter to a 110-106 win and a 1-0 series lead.
Message received, Houston.
