Check Out Shawn Oakman’s Box Jump…With 70 Lb. Dumbbells (Video)

Shawn Oakman

I guess now we can safely say that there’s an unofficial box jump contest going on among football players. Shawn Oakman did a 40 inch jump, hardly a record, but he performed it WITH 70 lb dumbbells in each hand. Uh, that’s pretty impressive. That’s like jumping 40 inches with another person strapped to you.

Of course, I’m sure strength coaches are cringing and orthopedic surgeons are licking their lips at the sight of this. The Baylor defensive end is a staggering 6’9″, 280 lbs, so the extra weight is probably just a rounding error to him, but to us mortals, it’s something worth writing an article about.

Here’s the wildly impressive clip:

I don’t know why he hasn’t been drafted at the age of 23, but maybe he can carve out a living making these videos for fans. I mean, we already have a lot of defensive ends. We need someone who can jump high while carrying 140 pounds.
