Writer for NFL Media Is First to Deploy the Tom Brady Asterisk in a List of Best NFL QBs (Pic)

The first person to use the Tom Brady asterisk is an employee of the NFL? Oh man, that’s cold.

This week NFL.com ran a feature in which three of their analysts ranked the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL heading into the 2015 season. One list, by Dave Dameshek, has the embattled New England Patriots quarterback at No. 3, making no mention of Deflategate. Another, by Elliot Harrison, has Brady at No. 2 and says “all that Deflategate crap” doesn’t change a thing about Brady’s status as one of the league’s most productive QBs.

However, a third, by Bucky Brooks, puts an asterisk next to Brady’s name and says the scandal casts doubt as to whether it’s talent or cheating that have made Brady so successful.

Of course, this is a load of crap. There’s no way underinflated footballs explain Brady’s success in the NFL. He pounded the Colts in the second half of the AFC Championship Game and orchestrated a game-winning drive against the best defense in the NFL in the Super Bowl after the NFL caught on to his cheating ways.

If Brooks wanted to rank Brady lower because he’s going to be 38 years old and is due to drop off eventually, that would be fine. But when you’re talking about the “stench” of Deflategate, you’re moralizing, not analyzing.
