Report: Geno Smith Broken Jaw The Result of Locker Room Altercation
Just when you thought the New York Jets’ quarterback situation couldn’t get any worse, it has, as it’s been confirmed that Geno Smith will be out 6-10 weeks following surgery to repair a broken jaw he sustained during a recent locker room altercation.
Jets coach Todd Bowles told the media on Tuesday that the injury was sustained after Smith was “sucker-punched” by linebacker IK Enemkpali, who has since been released by the team.
Geno Smith was in line to start at quarterback for the Jets this season, despite a disappointing 44.3 QBR, 77.5 passer rating, and just 13 touchdowns to go along with 13 interceptions during the 2014 season. For now, quarterback duties will fall on the shoulders of either veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, or rookie Bryce Petty.
